Year 11 Celebrate with Brunch

GCSEs are well underway and Heads of House decided it was time to give their hard working students a treat – ‘Brunch’. With help from the catering staff the midmorning feast was enjoyed by Year Eleven and their teachers.

Croissants, choc au pain, muffins, bagels, and fresh fruit were seized upon. Hard work certainly makes you hungry! The consensus was that GCSE brunch should be added to our other Hill House traditions.

On Monday 6th June the Onatti Theatre Company performed their French Comedy Play, Le Paquet Mysterieux for Years 8 to 10. The two French actors engaged and entertained the audience with their hilarious antics. Joining them on stage for short periods were Sigourney Hove, Jack Parkinson and Charlotte Roberts who all participated brilliantly. The audience learned lots of new vocabulary and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Year 7 'Soldier On' in History

Year 7 recently visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds as part of their History topic. The focus of the day was to look at armour and weaponry used in medieval Britain.

The pupils (and staff!) were able to handle and try on replica objects to compare the rich to the poor and the knight to the foot soldier. The pupils also had the opportunity to explore the museum itself as well as watching three short plays that were performed during the day. The first of which was a stirring re-enactment of the Christmas Truce in 1914 which the pupils listened to transfixed.

Captain James Frost Inspires Our Year 11 Pupils

On Monday 8th November Captain James Frost, from the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards), came into school to speak to our Year 11 pupils. The focus of his talk was about aspirations and goals in life achieved through his time in the Army.

Captain Frost was sponsored by the Army to study Politics at Leeds Met University. He then went straight to Sandhurst, the Royal Military Academy in Surrey where all Officers in the British Army are trained to take on the responsibilities of leading soldiers.

After graduating from Sandhurst Captain Frost has served in Afghanistan, Malawi and the Falklands.

His time with us was both interesting and inspirational.

Year 8 at Club Corezze, France

The pupils of Year 8 spent a week in France at Club Corezze, taking part in various outdoor pursuits. Their map reading was tested when they went Orienteering, they donned their wet-suits for Sailing and Gorge Walking and they got very muddy in the River Ramble. The Centre in the small picturesque market town of Meymac housed our Year 8 pupils for the week. It is always a pleasure to report that the behaviour of the Hill House pupils was exemplary and they all enjoyed taking part in the activities.

This amazing week of fun-filled activities ended with a disco and many happy faces.
