This year our Lower school nativity was the Russian folktale of Baboushka. All the children were involved in singing, dancing and speaking to confidently retell this delightful story. Throughout the performance there were tears, as proud parents watched Mary, Joseph and the angels all sing solos. Followed by tears of laughter as they watched the animals in the stable meet the very funny donkey, who had travelled “such a long way with a heavy load”. A truly excellent performance from all!

On Thursday 2nd October, Year 1 had their first visit of the year to Austerfield Field Study Centre, accompanied by Miss Jones, Mrs Tyler, Mrs Colbear and Mr Ross. The children were on a mission to discover 'Patterns in Nature' and they explored many different shapes and colours. Year 1 heard the story of The Broken Rainbow whose colours gave us the green of the grass, the blue of the sky and all of the colourful gemstones. They made colour pallets using different leaves, petals and soil samples to show where the rainbow pieces may have fallen. They became 'tree huggers' for the afternoon, showing Tender Loving Care (TLC) to the old trees in the Hundred Year Wood and even took some bark rubbings to see the patterns each tree had.

After lunch, Year 1 visited the animal house. They met Victoria the Royal Python, Amanda the red-legged Mexican tarantula, several new-born Chillian gerbils and even named the two resident Millipedes, John and Shane! After playing with the animals (showing TLC of course), the children copied the colours and patterns each animal had; another pattern in nature.

All the children worked beautifully, were well behaved and were, indeed, superb ambassadors for the school. Thank you to our two wonderful helpers and a big 'Well done' to Year 1!
